Wine Slushy....

So much better than a frozen Slurpee from 7-eleven, these adult beverage slushy's are a fun way to have a refreshing treat at home.

I have seen these mixes at every craft show and art fair that I have been to in the last several years. There is always a long line at the booth that sells these mixes because they always have samples! They sell the individual bags of white powder that magically mix with your own bottle of wine and create a slushy like mixture that is sweet and delicious to sip on.  Serve this at your next party and everyone will think you are a genius!

I am always tempted to buy one of these mixes, but at $10 a pop for the mix and then you have to add your own bottle of wine, it starts to feel a little pricey for a slush! I can be pretty cheap (at least with some things)... I figure that there is always a way to make your own, so I started to scour the internet to find out if there were any recipes out there to make the mix!  Well of course like most things, there are others out there as cheap (or as curious) as me and I found some recipes, so I decided to give it a try myself.

Sometimes I feel a bit like a mad scientist in my kitchen when I am experimenting with some of these recipes.  This one was really quite easy to make the mix, and it was so much fun checking on it to see if it was working after I mixed it with the wine and water and froze it!

Placed in a cute little bag with a recipe to make the slushy's tied at the top it will make a cute housewarming, hostess, birthday, or Christmas gift!

There are really only 2 ingredients in the mix so it is really easy and inexpensive to make.  Some of the recipes called for 1/4 tsp. of Matcha green tea powder, but this is very expensive and I could not think that 1/4 tsp. of anything could make a difference in taste or consistency (I am not really sure what the point is), so I left it out and I don't think it mattered.  Here is how I put these together...

Wine Slushy Mix
1 3/4 cups sugar
1 1/2 tsp. Citric Acid (found with canning supplies)
1/4 tsp. Matcha (green tea) powder (optional)

Directions:  Blend all ingredients to a fine powder in your food processor. Pour powder mixture into a sandwich size zip-lock baggie and use to mix with your own wine and water to make a delicious adult wine slushy.

Great hostess gift idea! Put the sandwich bag of white powder in a cute gift bag or jar and attach the wine slushy recipe to it... it would also be nice to include a bottle of wine so they have everything they need to make their own slushy's!  I am planning on sewing cute little pouches with drawstring tops to slide the mix into for gift giving!

Wine Slushy Recipe
Mix entire bag of powder mix with 1 750 ml bottle of inexpensive sweet wine (red or white) and 3 cups water, in a gallon size zip-lock bag, or plastic bowl. Let freeze for several hours, stirring or squeezing bag occasionally until slushy frozen consistency. Scoop out into wine glasses, or small dessert dishes and enjoy!

Measure sugar and pour into food processor

Measure and add the citric acid (and green tea powder if using)

Pulverize in food processor to a fine powder

Place mix into ziplock bags (If making more than one batch, process seprately)

To make slushy's pour powder into a bowl or a gallon size ziplock bag

Pour in bottle of wine

Stir and add 3 cups of cold water

This picture does not show the cold water added... when I added it ,
it filled the bowl to the top!

Place in freezer, and stir or shake about every 15 to 30 minutes until slushy

We did not drink ours right away, so it needed to be set on the
counter to thaw a bitbefore scooping into a glass

Cheers!

There are many different recipes that can be found online to use the "mix" to make other exciting frozen cocktails using different alcohol, juices and fruits. Be your own mad scientist using this base mix and enjoy creating some delicious new drinks to share with your friends!

Please drink responsibly

Holiday Cheers!
