Dresses for Panama...

"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
 - Mathew 28:19-20

This is a picture of a group of girls in an orphanage in Africa, that received the blessing of these special little dresses that my Mom and her sewing group at her church made several years ago and sent with a Missionary going there.

It is a blessing to be able to use the gifts that God gives us, and that is exactly what some ladies at my Mom's church are doing.  They are making these cute little "pillowcase" dresses for a group of students who will be traveling to Panama this summer on a mission trip.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms. - 1 Peter 4:10

My Cousin Gail, and my Mom at their machines!

My Mom, my Cousin Gail, and one of her friends, Jody from church all got together for a fun day of sewing to start making some of these dresses.  I happened to stop in for lunch and was impressed by the number of dresses they had begun to make!  It kind of looked like a sweat shop when I walked in... they had 3 sewing machines going, and an ironing board set up in my Mom's condo, and were working away!  They had a fun day of sewing, talking, and eating, all while using their gifts for the Lord, and I can't think of a better way to spend the day :).  I would have loved to join in and give them a hand, but unfortunately I had a leaky water heater at home and had a plumber coming to replace it... maybe next time!

For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works,
which God prepared in advance for us to do - Ephesians 2:10

Jody ironing bias tape... my cousin Gail has a cool bias tape maker
that enables them to make their own!

I know a lot of you are crafty people, and might have extra cotton fabric (at least a yard), or bias tape that you would like to see put to good use :). They will be working on these dresses for a few months so if you would like to make a donation of any of these items, a Joanne Fabrics gift card or of course any monetary donations are always welcome, they would certainly be put to good use!  And as always prayers for the project and the impact of the mission teams trip are always welcome and needed! Please contact me if you are interested, or have any questions!

In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive." - Acts 20:35

My Mom is 84 and is a great example of how you can serve
and still use your gifts at any age!

This is a good reminder of how we can use the gifts God gave us to show love to others in need in many different and special ways. Even though these women will not be on the trip that goes to Panama this summer, these little dresses and all the love that went into making them for the children there will be!

"And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me."
 - Matthew 18:5

Jody at her machine!

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you,
so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are
my disciples, if you love one another.” - John 13:34-35

Loving Others,
